One of my hobbies as a child was stamp collecting – or philately to use its proper name. As my interest developed it soon became apparent that I needed to specialise as every country produced a vast array of stamps and it would be impossible to collect them all! The possibilities seemed endless – I could concentrate on certain countries or choose a theme such as stamps that had pictures of animals or famous people or Christmas stamps. Then there was the problem of how best to display and protect them – should it be albums, loose-leaf folders for example. In the end I had several themes going plus a keen interest in first day covers – stamps on special envelopes franked on the day of issue. A fascinating hobby but sadly one that few children seem interested in today as computer games now appear to be the chosen preference.
As you progress on your Christian journey you soon realise that it is impossible to become expert in all aspects and hence may need to specialise in a particular area. So you may wish to study the prophetic, become involved in music worship, assist in missionary work, utilise your administrative talent, work with a certain age group, set up a home group or a Bible study group etc. God is more than willing to steer you in the right direction and keep you on track as you allow Him to have control. His plans for your life will ensure you reach your potential and feel fulfilled – so hand Him the reins today. There is a gap in the jigsaw that only you can fill. Yes, you are needed and have not been neglected or rejected. Go forward knowing you are a stamp of rare value!
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. (Isaiah 55:12)
