In the midst of all the hustle, stress and complications of life the thing we all crave most is PEACE. The problems that beset us from family, from work, from finances, from sickness and from the sheer pace of life often make us feel that peace is unobtainable, a distant dream. The current crisis of Covid-19has clearly added to the overall worry and the stress. Oh how we long to step off the roller coaster for a season and have some time to unwind, to relax and simply be at peace with nothing allowed to cause distraction or to interfere. Can we be at peace or is it symptomatic of life in the 21st century that we must battle our way through every day with a crisis-management mentality? Maybe we feel that it will be fine when the kids grow up, or when we retire or when we get that house by the sea or when finances allow a higher standard of living. This type of thinking will not bring the answers we crave as one set of problems always seems to be replaced by another.
Think today of the words of the old hymn:
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
The good news is that in the midst of all your trials, all your problems you can indeed find PEACE.
I will hear what God the Lord will say; For He will speak peace to His people, to His godly ones; Psalm 85:8
The Bible has much to say on the subject of peace:
We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 5:1
Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. Romans 15:33
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
Lord help us to find time to spend with you so that we may experience your wonderful peace, a peace that transcends all our difficulties and stress. Amen
